New Raised beds and Path for Muriel Jones Allotments

Volunteers at Muriel Jones have built two new raised beds for less mobile gardeners on the site.

Site rep, Elaine Rutland said. “We already have some raised beds at the site, but there is a strong demand for them. They’re an excellent way of enabling people to keep on gardening and to enjoy the benefits of exercise in the open air.”

The beds were built by volunteer plotholders from the Muriel Jones site and the project was funded by Frome Allotment Association.

A mud slide no more

Another project completed by volunteers over the summer is the new path by the entrance to the gate. Elaine said, “The rangers from Frome Town Council used a machine to press down the foundations and then a group of volunteers were able to finish it off. It’s a no longer a mud slide during the wet weather and gives plotholders better access to their plots.”

These two projects follow on from the water station, erected at the site last year, which harvests rain water for the use of plotholders.
